History of Kumarakom Tharavadu
Our Story
AD 1870; M.C Chandy built his dream home at the age of 16 for the Maliackal family, on the banks of the backwaters. Its location was ideal for transport and trade of the farm produce to be brought to the granary and from there to move it to the markets. With its grandeur and architecture, the Maliackal family home was later, popularly known as the “Kumarakom Tharavadu”. This mansion is a testament to Kerala’s legendary architectural style featuring a harmonious blend of elements.

Kumarakom Tharavadu has 8 luxurious guest rooms with an in-house restaurant that serves authentic Kerala food. There is also a private boat jetty in the property from where you can sail into the backwaters.

Live in the main bungalow that has been painstakingly restored for our guests. All four rooms have wooden ceilings, traditional furniture with a private balcony in the back and a Varandha in the front.

As the name suggests this was later on added to the main building by Late Mr.M.C.Chandy’s children. We also have one room for the differently abled in this category.
